What is Real Science?
Real science is peer reviewed, controlled, and unbiased. Real science must be able to be measured- inches, pounds per foot, meters per second, etc. This site strives to inject real science into a world steeped in mysticism. Real science does not hold all the answers, does not explain everything, and does not prove anything. Real science only suggests how the world works. Science is a specific process of learning, not the holy grail of answers.

Integrated Martial Arts (IMA) FAQ
What is Integrated Martial Arts (IMA)?
IMA is a brutal, comprehensive martial art that teaches self preservation from two angles. First, how to end a moderate confrontation with out fighting, by using pain compliance and balance disruption. And second, how to end a severe confrontation by using joint/bone breaks, concussive attacks, soft tissue destruction, and modern weapons. IMA teaches how to pose an intelligent defense when standing, on the ground, surprised, facing multiple attackers, and when you must directly protect a loved one.
How can I train In IMA?
Currently, any adult can order the home study program of IMA. Due to the nature of many of the techniques, minors are discouraged from training in IMA. Click on the Home Study link above for IMA program details. Anyone in the West Kentucky area can schedule private lessons with Sensei Cole
Can I become a quality Black Belt in a year?
One year is a short time to become a Black Belt in IMA. But, ultimately your dedication, learning speed, and skill level determine when you are ready to test for a black belt. Those with previous Martial Arts experience are ideal for earning a black belt in one year. Those with no Martial Arts experience will probably take 18 to 24 months to gain a solid proficiency in IMA. Remember, Black Belt is not the end of your journey, but the true beginning.
Can I train at home, without a partner?
With the right training aids, a student can become competent in IMA without a partner, but a partner is recommended for a deeper understanding of the Fighting Arts. However, a partner is required for some portions of the video testing.
I have never heard of IM, is it a valid Martial Art?
IMA is potent Martial Art recognized by Master Israel Velez III (7th Dan, Founder of American Modern Jujitsu, and President the Diversified League of Martial Artists) as a genuine Martial Arts system.
Is IM a mix of several Martial Arts?
No. Nothing is mixed in IMA. Each strike, throw, lock, and pressure point was thoughtfully selected for its usefulness, ease of learning, and integration into the style. IMA is a web of techniques and concepts that flow together and into each other, not a mix of things that looked interesting. But yes, IMA was developed by studying the following Martial Arts: Hapkido, Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do, Krav Maga, Akido, Jujitsu, American Wrestling, and some Reality Based Systems.
Is IMA unique?
The strikes and other techniques in IMA can be found in other styles, but the integrated theories of kinetic motion, balance, and hydrostatic shock isolate IMA as not just a devastating defense system, but one of scientific learning. Develop your Martial Arts skills faster by knowing what you are doing and why you are doing it. Any street brawler can throw a punch, but an IMA student will be taught to punch with power, precision, and brutal effectiveness. Knowledge is key in IMA, and the rewards are proportional to the effort the student puts in.
Does IM have any Katas or Forms?
Forms or Katas are not required to learn and advance in IMA, however Katas are currently being designed for those who wish to teach IMA, or who just want to learn new Katas. However IMA instructors can recommend Katas to the IMA student if they wish to learn some for competition or training purposes.
What types of weapons does IMA teach?
IMA teaches the following practical weapons: Pocket Knife, Wooden Sticks, Telescopic Baton, Kubotan Keychian, Mechanical Pencil, and Pepper Spray. IMA also teaches how to identify potential weapons from everyday objects like a book, newspaper, or scarf. Weapons training is not required to advance in IMA- unless the student wishes to earn a teaching (Sensei) certificate in IMA.
I have a black belt in another style, can I cross-rank in IMA?
No. But you can test for any belt level you wish and earn rank. Belts cannot be bought. Your skill earns them.
What comes after I have earned my IMA black belt; what is my future in IMA?
Second, Third, and Fourth Dan curriculums are being written, so your training and learning does not stop until you choose for it to. Also, any First Dan black belt can apply to become a certified teacher in IMA and open a charter school or give private lessons with the blessing and support of IDA.

Integrated Self Defense (ISD)
What is Integrated Self Defense (ISD)?
ISD is a compact self defense system for people that want to protect themselves but do not have the time to train in a larger system like Tae Kwon Do or Integrated Martial Arts.
How do IMA and ISD Differ?
IMA is a full Martial Art complete with traditional strikes, balance training, belt ranks, and fighting philosophy. IM students can use their skills to compete, defend themselves, and progress to higher black belt ranks. ISD is a compact style consisting of roughly 20 techniques that use gross motor skill and require little thinking. ISD is, by design, a devastating fighting system not suitable for competition.
Does ISD have belt levels?
No. The idea behind ISD is to be a personal, non-traditional system, solely focused on personal safety.
What will ISD teach me to do?
ISD integrates roughly 20 non-complicated techniques that are used to build effective combinations against any size attacker. Locks, Throws, Strikes, and Ground Survival are covered in the curriculum. ISD will teach the student to quickly react brutally. Yes, react. Reacting to a situation with a instinctual level of violence and avoidance. Freezing-up is your primary enemy in a sickening real-world confrontation.
How long until I am able to defend myself?
Not long, but everyone is different. The first lesson to the last lesson is pure combat. Self Defense is up to the student. But in short, you will be trained to react from the absolute first lesson.
Will I be a Super Ninja after training in ISD?
No. Set realistic goals for yourself and train honestly. You can defend yourself, there is no need to be stomped on.
